You've Got the Wrong Idea

Maren is so into princesses and Barbies and wings and glitter and stickers and wands....
OOOOH! I LOVE it!
THIS is why I wanted a girl.
Yesterday she put teeny tiny butterfly stickers all over Kieran's forehead!
And on any given day his little bald head shines with glitter from her fairy wings!
He's sprinkled in pixie dust constantly!
It's wonderful!
"Mama I am going to be the tooth fairy today!"
And she'll strip down to her pull-up (let's just leave the potty training alone right now-yes, I know a pull-up isn't the way to get there, but neither is sticking her out in the snow in her underwear - I am waiting for summer, thanks) put on her wings, her crown, hold a wand and off she goes looking for teeth.
Now, I don't know that the tooth fairy is typically NUDE, but I am sure there are a lot of dudes out there who would PULL their teeth for that.

Okay so the more I am learning about Type 1 Diabetes and our son, the more I am realizing that when people say:  "it's manageable", they do NOT mean, the disease.
They mean:  YOU WILL MANAGE.
The disease is all over the board on any given day.
Keegans numbers fluctuate constantly, and believe me, we are vigilent carb counters.
I can't even imagine what it's like for people who ballpark their kids carbs.
The highs and lows really affect Keegan. He gets tired and emotional and snappy.
It is a rollercoaster.
And we have only known since November.
I do NOT want anyone to think that someone can lead a normal life with a disease like this.
Because they cannot.
It is not normal.
I am finding great support in reading other mom's stories and in my friendship with two amazing angels at school. One student with Type 1 and her bestie.
Those girlies will be my friends for life.
I don't like dwelling on negative nelly kinds of things, but this is affecting Keegan's life every day and it hurts his mom and his dad to watch.
On an exciting note, he's all signed up for his first camp: a day camp for diabetic kids.
I cannot wait for him to go.
Diabetes will be the NORMAL.
Manageable for a few days with new friends.
