Saturday and a Long Blog

So Will is gone for the weekend at a bachelor party. I don't know..most parties I go to only last a few hours...you get drunk, say things you shouldn't about people your husband works with, your spouse gives you the "warning eyes" to stop drinking pinot grigio, you leave in a blur, fall into bed, wake up the next morning, silently cursing yourself that you got drunk in the first place because your one year-old ALWAYS gets up at 7 am because he DOESN'T drink...
(this hasn't happened yet, but I am just planning ahead, you know..kind of visualizing my future)

ANYWAY..the only fishy part (no pun intended) about this bachelor weekend is that Will SAID he was going to fish while he was there.
"So, did you take your fishing gear?"
"Oh, uh, no, I forgot it, dammit."
Hmmm....
You know after I saw Brokeback Mountain..I have never really bought the "We are going fishing, see you in a week, honey" story. At least THAT guy actually took his fishing pole along. God!

Last weekend Keegan turned one.
We had a bash!
For us.
Look I am all for the children's birthday party thing. I will plan plan plan elaborate "dinosaur-themed" affairs where each of Keegan's playmates will leave so blown away that they'll talk about his party for a year..I mean it will show up in the Toddler Society Pages..I SWEAR!!
BUT I refuse REFUSE to get all hyped up when Keegan is just as excited to play with the Avon box that Grandma wrapped his present in than the ACTUAL present that was inside..So we really had more of an adult party.

I will say that Keegan was a little under the weather and this made me a little nervous because I don't think anyone likes going to a party when they don't feel good and then Will had a cold too, so really the only one in the house that was in the party mood the morning of..was ME but let's be honest I was also forty pounds lighter and didn't have an epidural needle stuck in my back like the previous April 19th, so really ANYTHING was going to be better for one of us...

It was a great success and I think Keegan liked his cake the best.
Again, a little nervous when everyone crowded around pressuring me to give him the whole cake. Even my sweet mother! "Go on! Just give it to him!" What??!! He had never had that much sugar in his entire life and you want me to give him a WHOLE CAKE??
I did not get this.
If he were turning 21 would all of his grandparents and aunts and uncles be standing around saying: "Go ahead! Just GIVE him the keg!"
Now that I think about it: probably.
But STILL.
All in all, it was a great first birthday celebration and we are one year older, smarter, tireder, and "parent-ier"...
And Will is at a bachelor party "weekend" and I am blogging while it snows...
I'm going shopping that's all there is to it..

Here are a few pictures from the party. Keegan is wearing a helmet, so all of our guests wore hats. As you can see, Keegan looks drugged. He was. I gave him Motrin. As you can also see, he is holding his Butt Paste. He likes to carry it around with him and chew on the cap. DO NOT TRY TO TAKE IT AWAY FROM HIM. I rest my case about themed parties at his age. What? You want me to throw a Butt Past-themed party because that's what he likes to play with right now? Well, that's just gross!!

We took off his helmet for his cake eating. I miss his little head. It should be off in about three months..and then his head will be perfectly round so he can wear a buzz cut...with our luck he will want long shaggy hair his whole life and this will all be in vain..but then he won't get a very good job with long shaggy hair, so really it's worth it.. probably too much time alone this weekend with only small child and cats...need to get to the mall soon...there are other adults there...

I've just stumbled upon your blog that mentions..Butt Paste, fantastic! We came across this great and effective stuff via blogs like yours and, a long, long time later we've started exporting it to Europe, first stop:

I can't thank you enough for writing about Butt Paste, it's thanks to blogs like yours that we found out about this and can now make it available to parents in the UK. Brilliant blog btw, cheers. JC
