Today was the first day I have cried. I mean I think I cried when I got those sterroid shots last week, but I was too focused on not punching the nurses. Today was a full out bawl session.
Until this happens to you, you have no idea what it's all about. This I have firmly decided. I have also decided to keep a list of things to remember, so that when someone I know is in a similar situation, I will remember what to do to be helpful:
prepared meals, help with groceries,
child care
keeping in touch
So far these seem to be the biggies for us.
Grandpa spent some time explaining things to Keegan today. He let him know that things would be different for the next couple months, that he might be going to Grandmas' houses or that he might need to help at home a little more.
"Great," slumping his shoulders. "I guess I'll have to make dinner."
Well, at least he's ready for his responsibilities when he gets home.
I am kidding.
Pretty much.
We have done a complete overhaul of our finances because when you stop getting paid, you do a complete overhaul of your finances.
This is unpleasant and scary, but we have an end date. I am not unemployed forever.
We look at it as four months of our lives: As Mrs Partridge would say (Walk Two Moons) In the course of a lifetime, what does it matter?
We will make it.
If I've learned nothing else from Ernesto, I've learned that you too can stay in your home for up to a year, blast techno music, slam vodka, and not pay your mortgage.
Thanks for being an inspiration, Guy.
Again, I have to say without Will being so great, I could not be doing this. I also want to say that if I go into labor in the middle of the night, it will be a disaster.
"Will. I'm having contractions. Will, they hurt."
"Unnh..you just take some deep breaths. Gunhh...just relax."
I was NOT going into labor, but I was having contractions again, and it was great to know Will was so wide awake.
Sigh.
I got a flyer for Heifer International in the mail today and I am seriously considering asking for a water buffalo. If everyone we know would simply contribute $5.00, he could be here in a month. Chicks, bees and rabbits are extremely inexpensive, but I think if we're going to be down to one income, and tight for groceries, the water buffalo could come in handy. I also figure that he could replace one of our vehicles, which would be a huge savings. If I started out on the water buffalo around 5 am, I could make it down to Target in just a few hours. I think you can milk water buffaloes, but maybe they only give water, I don't know. Still, it's a savings.
These are the things that run through your mind when you are restructuring.
Well, I feel better now that I've blogged. I will keep you updated on the water buffalo idea.
