Lately Keegan has had a lot to say. He has comments, and he has a lot of questions. I am just amazed.
"Mom, I am going to marry you when I grow up."
I think this is incredibly sweet of my darling three, almost four year old. I do not have the heart to tell him that I don't want to get married a third time, though.
"Mom I am going to marry Maren when I grow up."
Again just precious. He loves his baby sister so much. My heart just turns to slush when he talks like this.
However, you know me well enough to know that there is that little niggly scenario being played out in the back of my head: "Brother Marries Sister in Minnesota Suburb! Scandal Rocks Family!"
Look, I watch a lot of reality TV. I get a little freaked out.
Have decided to just let this alll play out and address the issue if it comes up again in his 20's.
"Dad, do you like mustard?"
I wonder why he is asking this? Does Keegan spend a lot of time thinking about condiments? Did I when I was 4?
"I want to visit Uncle Otis, Grandpa Woody and Uncle Bud."
Keegan knows every single old man on Will's father's side of the family by name. Isn't this kind of amazing? And he wants to visit them all in their nursing homes as much as possible. He LIKES this.
I still weep uncontrollably every time I think about going into a nursing home. Keegan is gung ho! He will sit for hours with Grandpa Woody, even if Grandpa Woody is sleeping! To me, that is simply a special special heart. I also think this seals the deal on him visiting his mother someday if I am nursing home bound! But let's be honest, they're going to have to catch me first. I know they don't serve much wine there.
"It is only 18 days until my birthday."
"And then what Keegan?"
"I don't know."
"Well what can you do when you're four?"
"I can't chew gum. That's when I'm five."
"Mom. Dad and I are going to the zoo."
"What am I going to do?"
"Welllll, you can come to."
"Aren't you forgetting someone?"
"Who?"
"Your baby sister."
"Oh, I guess she can come too."
No longer worried about creepy inter-family marriage thing if he doesn't even remember to take her to the zoo.
Another crisis averted!
